As an adult, it's incredibly hard to summon that all-absorbing, reading huddled around my nightlight unable to put the book down PASSION for stories I frequently experienced as a kid. The Dandelion Dynasty has yanked me out of a very eurocentric bubble. It wasnt until college that I got to take courses touching on history and politics in Japan and Egypt, Chile and Sri Lanka, and even then theres only so much one can cover in a 4 month course, and I didnt need that many history credits for my degree. My only World History course in grade school focused on the Romans until 1066, then it focused on Britain. I am the product of a very American education. ![]() it all captured a very special part of my imagination and constituted a large portion of the books I consumed for general funsies. Ive always had a soft spot for historical fiction, and through authors like Guy Gavriel Kay, Mary Stewart, Howard Pyle and Alan French, I've spent a lot of time with the crusades, the Arthurian legends, knights and armor and siege weapons and stone castles. From a young age, I fed my literary curiosity a steady diet of Tolkein and Pratchett, Tad Williams and Robert Jordan. This review contains spoilers for the whole Dandelion Dynasty series. ![]()
